Unhappy Tried All CLimate

I try to be a fair guy. I didnt mention my switch, cause I wanted a clear objective handle on it. Last month I drained my normal HD30w oil and replaced it with HD30w Valvoline All Climate in Napa bottles.
I got home form the store yesterday, climbed under and drained the oil. I'm sorry Valvoline guys, but with just under 500 miles on the oil, it came out nasty black and smelled burned. The stuff was thin, almost like water thin. The last time I saw oil come out like this was in a used car.
I know some are going to say the oil was just doing its job. To a point thats fair to say. The oil was way to broken down and nasty.
I still feel guilty.
As you may have noticed from the '15w40' thread, thats what I'm trying now. Which is why I switch it out. Going on a wheelin trip this coming week, so I wanted fresh fluids all around.
Thats my two cents.

I dont see how any oil could be trashed in 500 miles unless your engine has something wrong with it.

The only way I can figure to trash the oil in 500 miles is to overheat the engine.

if you get somebody like my mom that changes their oil once every 10,000 miles then you can trash it at 500 miles. i have 10,000 on my mobil 1 gonna change it tomorrow.

You're right! If the last change was bad enough, then the next fill really should be a short-term flush. My boss bought my last F150 and changed the oil one or two times in 25,000 miles. Then he filled it with 20w50 in October. I told him he can't run 20w50 in the Michigan winter and given his oil change record he should run it a couple hundred miles and drain it off to flush things out. He did and brought a sample in. To me, this oil at around 200 miles looked worse than a 3000 mile change.

Usually Mobil Drive Clean 30w. Changed every 3000 miles or less. Dont get on the gas but maybe every few days. Drive 16 miles r/t to work with only 2 stop signs. I never drive anywhere till the water temp gets to the first line. I rarely get in 4x4. I dont tow stuff but every couple months. Usually my oil comes out dark, but with some viscosity still in it.
I threw in the Delvac 15w40. Now seems a little top end rattle when it warms up. Never before. Think maybe the oil isnt flowing just right. Too think? I would think not. Either way, in two weeks, draining again and changing to the Mobil filter and running this 15w40 likes it made to, for a while. If by Tuesday night the rattle has ceased, I'm draining and refilling with my 30w or the Delvac 10w30.

Yeah, and it wasn't just the one or two changes in 25000 miles, but that was over a FOUR YEAR PERIOD!!! :-staun
I remember once giving him a jump and noticing that the oil filter was rusty. After he changed the oil he said the idle increased--duh! Sure it will when the old stuff comes out lumpy!

I was at the garage one day when mini van got towed in. Motor was locked up. They drained the oil out. The stuff was black and smelled more than burned. Then a few lumps came out with the oil. Chunks of crud. The lady had never changed the oil since she drove it off the lot at zero miles. Said it was her husbands job to change the oil. He was on the phone sayin he never applied for the job, and she never mentioned it. So much for the warranty, if there was any left.

I have no idea if it was leased or purchased. It was about to hit the fan, I walked away and never looked back.

Try a Delvac 5W-40, it pumps easier on cold starts.
