alternator

This is my first repair on my "new to me" f250 7.3l psd. Need to replace the alternator and do not see obvious way to loosen the serpentine belt. What is the proper way? Thanks...

You can put a socket and rachet on the tensioner and turn it down loosening the belt so you can take it off. Thats the way on my 94. Don't think it any different on newer ones.

Thanks... I thought that was the way but it looks like it would have a tendency to loosen that bolt. Is that bolt metric? neither my 9/16 or 1/2 socket would fit.

(not sure why there are 2 of my original posts, all I did was hit the back button on my browser a couple of times... sorry)

Alternator successfully rereplaced. Had to borrow neighbors impact wrench to swap the pulleys 'cause the one on the new alt. was too small.
