4.6 Bellhousing bolt pattern ?

Has anyone tried or know if a 4.6 will mate to an AOD tranny? I'm considering using a 4.6 in a project but would rather use a non-electronic transmission to simplify the wiring.

The very early 4.6 in Crown Vics will mate to an AOD if I am not mistaken. I think the early ones used a 5.0 bolt pattern but the ones after the first year or so will not.

Thanks, that gives me hope.......but that Lincoln Mark VIII 4.6DOHC is really teasing me too! Decisions, decisions......

1991 Town Cars used the 4.6L/AOD combination, as did EARLY 1992 Crown Vics, Grand Marquis, and Town Cars. Those are referred to as "******* block" engines, and they are not interchangeable with the later ones.
