Coolant loss - where's it going?

Coolant loss - where's it going?
I'm having a problem with coolant loss. I add as much as 1/2 gal after a 300 - 500 mile trip. No visible external leaks. No coolant under the vehicle. No indication, by checking the plugs, that it's getting into any of the cylinders. No signs of coolant/water coming from the exhaust system. Any ideas where to look?

I would still do a compression test. These slow leaks can be a bearcat to track down. A small leak like that may not leave much of a indicator. It could be a leaking water pump, a hose with a small leak, a manifold gasket, etc.

Thanks for the feedback. I did a compression check and got 150 on 5 cylinders and 148 on 1 cylinder. I think I'm ok there.
A friend suggested I pressure test the radiator. I'll try that as soon as I'm able to and post the results.
