My trusty 83' F250 is becoming untrusty. I recently replaced the stock carb with an Edelbrock 600. Made all the adjustments to get it to pass emissions and life was good. I have hada few problems as detailed in previous post. Here is the latest. Start the truck up and it fires right off. Let the clutch out and it bucks, snorts, belches and blows BLACK smoke out the tailpipe, (sometimes with a spectacular flame). Then dies. mulitiple times it will start right back up and runs great. It will idle very well but when under the slightest load it will want to die, belch.... Again if it dies, and I restart it will run great even under a load. Also it will diesel when I shut it off and backfire through the tail pipe(sometimes)
My thoughts are:
1) fuel delivery problem. I have replaced the sock on the fuel pump and the fuel filter.
2) timing.
3) the electronics module on the drivers side fender.
Help Please
And by the way, this is a great forum with everyone having a true interest in helping a fellow Ford owner.
Keep up the good work.
