hi- new to the forum... I recently purchased a ford e150 van 1983 model and am trying to pass california's strict emission requirements. this thing came with the air filter undone and missing a pre-heater hose.
my question is this: Should there be a heat shroud that goes over the intake manifold where the pre-heater hose connects into? That hose is necessary for vehicle inspection, or so i've read online.
If there is such a thing that comes originally on the van, any leads on where to find one?
I think most engines of that era had a sheetmetal shroud mounted on the manifold for the pre heater hose to the air cleaner. I think they were made from tin cans, as they sure rusted out in a hurry.
I don't know where to find new ones. I tried, but with no luck.
I had an 85,and that cold engine air pick-up self destructed in short order. I never had any trouble passing inspection. It was only used untill the engine warmed up. Just hook a hose to the air cleaner, and rest it on the exhaust manifold. I know you can get the hose anywhere
