wondering if no muffler is better? is this bad for my 302 engine/o2 sensors in the long run with no backpressure? i'd like to keep stock cats and pipe. can i just remove the muffler and put in a pipe and put a larger tip on? i do want a good deep sound too. or would it be better to replace the stock muffler with a fm orig40's si/so? any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks!
Running without mufflers shouldn't hurt anything as long as you have a good length of pipe still on(like the rest of the exhaust) so there is still SOME backpressure. I'd still prefer 40 series over nothing at all.
On my truck I have a 3 inch straight pipe from the cat back to the stock exit location behind the right rear tire. It sounds throaty but not too loud and runs perfect.

I've run mine for over a year with just pipe after the cat's. It's loud but the cops never bother me. I always know when it starts in the morning with the remote starter.SAV
does the o2 sencer of computer mess up if u take off the cats and just use a muffler and pipes? i would like to do this but i dont want to run in to alot of crap i would have to fix and tinker with.
My opinion is that we're not back in the 50s fixing vehicles with bailing wire and such, we've come a long way since then, why don't you just buy a nice performance muffler for your truck and do everyone a favor by keeping it somewhat quiet?
You shouldent hurt anything with just cats, i have no cats and a performance muffler and no peoblems, and WHO cares if were not in the 50's anymore, LOUDER IS BETTER!!!! Gotta make sure everyone knows your comming and going for that matter.
no muffler wont hurt anything but make sure u have at least on cat and dont forget to keep the o2 sensor and u'll be fine...i second "loud pipes save lives"
I have a harley to let everyone know i'm comming. and they hear me go.
I have a Nite, and all my friends have named it the "stealth" truck now, cause the thing is so damn hard to see at night.
As for the o2 sensor problems. I have no cat on mine. got it that way, but you should see the horribal weld job the guy did.
I'd put a nice flow master on it to be honest. still loud, and good backpressure.
as for muffler tips.
You wanna be a ricer or something?
i'm tired of cars that try to sound ballzy, and my crappy blown out muffler truck sounds 10x better then there bravum pop pop cough.
