Hello I have a 97 Ford Explorer 4.0 I have experienced slight shuddering and Idle Problems after replacing the idle Control valve and returning to ford they believe there is a bad gasket between the plenum chamber?. The tech said it was a fairly simple job and the gasket's were about $14.00. Anyone tried this and is it very difficult.?
I looked in my Haynes Repair Manual and could find nothing about this. Thanks in advance
I have not done a gasket change on the 4.0, but I have on my 5.0. There is not much difference. I imagine he is talking about the gasket between the upper and lower intake. It is not a hard job at all. You will probably have to remove your intake tube from your throttle body, unbolt your throttle body from the upper intake, and unbolt your upper intake from your lower intake. Then clean all the old gasket from the sides of each intake - MAKE SURE NONE OF THE OLD GASKET FALLS INTO YOUR PORTS!!! Next, apply RTV to your new gasket (on both sides) and place it on the lower intake. Then jsut rebolt everything back up.
I would say it would take at max 2 hours for someone not familiar with the engine. Let us know if you need anything!
