I have a 1980 F150 with a 302 and C4 transmission. Unfortunately I've had a lot of tranny problems. It sounds like something in the bellhousing is being ground away. However, upon inspection, there is nothing grinding in the bellhousing and everything is fine. Wierd. Anyhow, I decided on buying a different transmission. I found a 302 and C4 combination in the paper for 125 dollars. The guy selling it is a little slow and just wants it gone. I, however, do not have a tv/ kickdown linkage. I have no idea why mine didn't have one and the guy apperantly doesn't have one for his either. I heard that without one it will burn up the transmission.
So, my questions are: Where can I get one? And is it a cable or a solid metal bar? Also, do I really need one? I have a B&M Shifter that reaches a considerable distance from the floor which alows me to shift it manualy into gears (well, like a manual valve body would.) Finally, in the transmission currently in my truck, there is a huge hesitation when shifting into 3rd gear. Is this a result of not having a kickdown linkage? The spot where the kickdown hooks up just spins in place on the tranny currently in the truck. I know that ain't right!! Thanks for all the help.
