ok my 87 ranger 2.9 will run good for awhile the start to sputter really bad
then stall and wont start again
when i turn key on you cannot hear fuel pump prime anymore
not getting pressure but when i press on schrader valve it sounds just like a bunch of air
there is a couple relays under a cover hehind battery a black and green one and a black and brown one.
i changed both and no fuel
the black and brown relay has two yellow wires running into one if i hook direct power to this from battery the green one clickes for about three seconds (i think this one is fuel pump relay green one) fuel pump goes and truck will start, but still start sputtering and die
if truck sit for a length of time it will start fine
i am in dire straights here over this, as i have a 4x4 run to go on this saturday with a bunch of other people
any help would be greatly apreciated
Henry

After the truck sits for a while, it starts fine? Check all the grounds. A poor ground will cause all of the components in an electrical system to heat up. I believe an overheated relay will stay "disengaged" until it cools down?
is the tank full??this seems obvious but you'd be surprised how many vehicles get towed on empty. try banging on the tank with a rubber hammer while a buddy tries to start it you might have a dying fuel pump.
when i leave key on and wiggle the main harness around down there it starts to cycle my fuel pump on and off
so now i just have to trace the wire that is bad LOL
there is a lot of wires
