has any1 installed it yet on a sd??trying to figure the best place to place the head. would like to put it under vent but 4x4 swith is there.also where u guys ran your anttna out. rigged in work truck on a 800 mile trip it work great
My XM Head Unit was part of an aftermarket radio I had installed. The installer ran the wiring for the antenna out through the top of the light, that sits over the back window. The antenna sits about 2 inches onto the roof. Hope that helps.
I put one in my 04 SD. Finding a place for the head was a little tricky though. I put mine right where the esof switch would go, since I have a floor shift. The problem with that is when the column shifter is in drive, it partially blocks my view of the preset buttons. It sounds like you have the esof option so that is out. Turned out to be a very clean installation though because I routed the wires through the hole next to the pocket on the dash(I think a switch goes there for some option).
A friend of mine made his own mounting bracket for his and mounted it on the pillar just above the dash.
I also looked into floor mounted cell phone mounts. They have these with adjustable hieghts and flexible shafts for unlimited mounting options.
As far as the antenna goes... I did not want to scratch my paint job with the magnetic mount antenna, so I purchased a window mount antenna from Best Buy. No drilling or anoying wire to deal with. The wire from the antenna is routed up under the headliner and then down under the trim behind the door and run under the door sill.
I put mine in the rectangular pocket by the ESOF switch. I keep the remote in the overhead console (sunglass compartment). Trying to look at the display way down could get you in trouble if you take to long. But the antenna out the back light and on the roof worked well for me. I do however like the glass mount idea better.
I made a bracket and mounted mine in the pocket by the ESOF switch. There is even enough room to fit my sunglass case next to it. I have pics in my gallery if you want to look.
I have XM in 2 F250s '88 & '04, both are in dash/after market recievers. Both antennas (or is it antennae) are mounted thru cargo light openning and on center at rear of roof line. Works geat.
Ordered '04 with radio downgrade. I took delivery and went straight to XM install shop. 3 miles without XM was a long way to go, after commercial free for 14 months.
I have an XM Roady for my 2003 F250SD, I found this product to mount the head unit to, installed the FMModulator to tap into tmy radio antenna, and ran the XM antenna out the back window.
I have not installed it yet, but this looks pretty good. Just waiting for a warmer day...
I have a manual truck with Manual 4X4. I bought the Delphi Roadie and mounted it to the right of the steering column on the mount that comes with it. It's a nice fit and it's out of the way but always in rach of my fingers. I was able to run all of the wires behind the plastic so it's out of sight. I mounted my nextel on the other side. I don't know if an auto's stick would block the radio controls and the manuals key release is close but they clear each other. Just my $0.02...
Funny you should mention this... I just had my XM Delphi installed today at Circuit City. I had to go the FM Mod route (I guess you can't go direct input w/ the in dash 6-disk changer.)
I wanted to use the bracket from ProFit....But the bracket for the '04 F-250 only works if you DON't have the adjustable floor pedals. I got the adhesieve installation to the left of the "Power Point" plug in thinggey. It's where Ford puts the key to turn off the front passenger air bag on the supercabs. But I have the Crew Cab, so I put it there.
Circuit City routed all the connections and wires so I can't even see them except where they plug into the XM. It looks pretty good, I think.
I was thinking about getting a XM radio and I decided to get an iPod instead. It is a little more time consuming to setup but with 5,000 song capacity I have endless listening time.
I have an XM ready head unit that plays mp3's as well, put the reviever under center seat and i went with a through the glass antenna. Works well for me
Oh, and XM is commercial free on all radio stations (they just added some at the beginning of this month) and will be adding traffic and weather for select cities starting march 1. And still just 9.99 month
Do the factory 6 cd changers in the sd's play mp3? I haven't been able to find any info specific to the audio system. If not, does anyone know of an after market changer that is compatible w/mp3 worth recommending?
