I have had a sporadic problem with the interior ceiling lamp of my 1999 F250 Super Duty Lariat Super Cab. Initially the problem I encountered was the "Door Ajar" warning would light on the dash would remain lit even after all the doors were closed. The interior light and rear cab exterior bed light would remain lit for several minutes as well. I assumed it was a sensor in the door and so monitored the occurances to see if it was linked to a specific door which it wasn't. It has now taken on an additional quirk. When the "Door Ajar" warning is lit the lights mentioned remain on for several minutes and then shut off. After the light have gone off If the vehicle is in motion when I brake and decelerate to approximately 5-10 mph the lights I specified will come on indepently. I am curious if anyone has encountered this condition or if someone might be able to provide insight into the root cause and the corrective action to prevent this condition. The condition is intermittent and the ability to duplicate it on demand has prevented the dealer from diagnosing it. There are many theories as to the cause but when asked if the repair is performed can they guarantee that the condition will be eliminated all the service people start backpeddaling. Any insight anyone could give would be most appreciated.
you've got a stuck door switch. you'll need to get out the ole WD40, and spray down the door latch/switches. i had the same problem on my 99 for 2 years before i read about the fix here!
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Yep. Had the same problem, solved it the same way. WD-40 sprayed generously in the latches. Then close door & open it several times to work the spray in good... probly goes poof!
If it doesn't move and it should use WD40, if it moves and it shouldn't Duct tape. If all else fails, hit it with a hammer. The complete redneck tool kit.
ahhh...yes...I had this with my '99 supercab before I upgraded to my current truck...drove me crazy..and was embarassing..it kept getting worse, anytime I stopped, it would come on...so every light or stop sign, the light would pop on....hated it, wish I would have read this then!
