I was wondering if anyone has figured out a fix for the flutter problem on v-10s.Id love to buy headers but i cant comprehend spending the money when its something ford should fix.My f-350 is a 2001 and the dealer already put in the suposed new y pipe and it seemed to make fuel economy worse and flutter is still there(it still looks like a pretsel). My friend owns a custom exaust shop and he thinks we should bend up our own y pipe and try to fix the flutter.Any input would be great!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Feb-02 AT 07:04 PM (EST)]I don't have the flutter problem. Kinda wish I did, then I could tell the wife (Mrs. Finance ) that headers with a FULL exhaust were the only real fix.
There are some Borlas for the V10 on e-bay. I'm sure if you could get your buddy to bend up a Y-pipe then you'd have a real nice system! Actually, come to think of it, I think they already have it installed...
You may be able to make a new Y pipe and make the flutter go away but then again it may get worse. Flowmaster makes a great Y that you could use. Headers really are worth the $. Borla's are about $560 and include a new Y pipe.
Monsta,
I went to eBay and checked out those headers. Those things are a mess! The seller doesn't know what he's talking about. They welded up the EGR tube fitting. :-X23 He also way over estimates the value at $800. No way! They are only good for vehicles with no EGR unless you want to do some work. I'd guess and say you'd need $50 worth of gaskets and bolts to make them fit. Would I buy them?? Maybe for $100 or less.
I think I'm starting to experience the flutter. It sounds like a exhaust flashing is loose and buzzing around 2000 rpm while on the throttle, comes and goes. Is it damaging to the motor or just annoying? I'm kinda getting used to it, think it sounds more like a jet now!
Did you happen to check all the tack weld on the heat shields? I once thought I had flutter but turned out to be a broken tack weld. 5 minutes and a hose clamp solved it.
Someone whould make a sound clip of the flutter so that we can all hear it! Any takers?
