help me out guys. received my Putco Boss Locker side rails for my '04 lariat screw but I don't understand the installation instructions. anybody put rails on their truck? is there anything I need to know. Line-x dealer told me that this truck has a new kind of box/rail assembly. do I need to remove the plastic rail caps and how? thanks
I have a new set of Putco Bed Rails and am having trouble understanding (not an unusual experience) the directions. Anyone out there have any experience installing the Putco bed rails on their '04 Supercrew? Are there stake pockets under the factory plastic rail cover, and if so, how do I remove the plastic cover to get to the pockets without destroying the plastic cover? Any hints, or detailed directions will be much appreciated.
prarie boy and wood4logs...welcome to FTE! I can't offer expert advice, but I believe the rail caps are held in by "push-in" plastic tabs...they're sorta diamond shaped so that when you press em in they compress, and once in they expand back out. There's close to a million on each rail, and getting to them (to try and compress each one to pop it out) can be pretty tricky. I think if you just try to pry the caps off, there's a good chance they'll just get ruined.
Also, I doubt if there's stake pockets under there, why would they cover them up??
Again, no expert advice, and if anyone knows better please let these guys know. I poked around and felt the tabs, and quickly decided I won't be pulling the caps off anytime soon!!
