I am still trying to get my "81 F-100 with a 300 I6, with 76,000 miles on it running properly. Starts and idles fine, but after a few miles boggs down, and chugs when I accelerate too hard. Also getting only about 10 mpg. I have to wind it up as high as I can before shifting because it will bogg at the lower rpms.
I have changed fuel filter twice, new plugs and wires, checked timing. I got truck from my Dad, and was not driven much in the last few years. Now with the warmer weather, I feel like looking under the hood again, before I bring it into a shop.
hey,
My girlfriend's 80 does the same thing, I am betting it is your carb. I am not sure about what, or which carb these trucks have but I bet a good rebuild is in order for yours. I am going to try the same things you did with the fuel filter, plugs, wires and timing but I am betting it is the carb. that just costs more $ and don't want to do that right off the bat.
Chris
your carb is flooding out u need to take it off an get it rebuilt , the 1 bbl is bad for that problem iv had a few of them 1 even passed emessions while doing it guess ford expected that carb to do that lol .iv had enough of the 1 bbl an now going to try the 2 bbl on the 300 an see how that works
