Build Axle Wider?
How easy is it to build your axles wider? (I have a Dana60 and a Ford 10.50").
How much would it be?
Easier just to put some Rockwells or womethin under it?

You would have to have a custom axle shop, like Currie Enterprises, build new housings and shafts to your length spec. and weld on the spring and shock mounts in the same places they are now.
I don't doubt that it could be done, but it may decrease your axles' carrying capacity because of the longer lever the tires would be exerting on the whole axle and the greater distance from the spring mount point to the wheel center. Going with a wider axle from a heavier duty truck, as you said, would eliminate that problem.
If it's greater side to side stability you're after, maybe a Dually pickup would be a simpler solution if your one ton is a single rear wheel truck?
