Thanks for all your help thus far. I am now wondering about how much it usually costs to get the head ported/polished on a 2.3L. Would it be cheaper to just buy already ported/polished heads from esslinger? Also, what is the average performance increase from doing this? All replys appreciated. TIA.

 

Porting/polishing is just one ingredient in a performance recipe and by itself does little. Combined with the right cam, bigger valves and an increased compression ratio, it makes a difference. I have ported and polished motorcycle heads but have never tried it with an auto engine.

 

I would say get a die grinder,carbide tip and have fun.If you are worried about messing something up get a old J/Y head to play with.They may even have a core head laying around thats messed up.He is right this combined with other mods is the way to go.A little here a little there and next thing you know you have a stout engine. FIRE IN THE HOLE!
