PS I'm trying to decide on an engine build
jonbass,
thanks a bunch.
That will be the build then.
Using the formula eng tq x tire size x rear gears it should be enough motor to gross about 18k lbs with 4.56 gears. That's perfect.
PS I want to run an aftermarket OD, what is the better unit US gear, gear vendor.
Dustin
gear vendor is a little more, but it alows you to shift on the fly. If you are running a t18 this will give you 8 gears instead of 4. It mounts after you trans or transfercase so you cant use it in 4x4 but i cant think of any reason you would need overdrive in 4x4 anyway.
While you are at it I would consider upgrading the brakes some, or at least inspecting all of the lines. you dont want to have a problem with them when you are towing 18k lbs. (don't ask why i would know)
yes I already have a post about discs on rear and a dually brake booster and master cylinder. I hear if you put a dually booster on a SRW truck it helps braking tremendously, but what master cylinder?
The truck is a 78 f250 dual pistion caliper, with a 300 I6, it has the brake lines comming off the passanger side of master cylinder
I cant really help you with that one but I would be interested to see how it truns out. I imagine the mounting flanges are all the same so i think you could keep your master and just switch the booster, but I cant say for sure
