Ive got a 1990 F-150 1/2 ton....and the brakes leak on me...they seem to be leaking from a box underneath the truck where all of the lines go in and out of. I cant seem to find a particular place where its leaking, but i know its around that area, i need some help, depending on how much i drive it i have to fill up the fluid level quite often one more question...does anyone know how big a tire can go on a 2wd F-150? im thinking of sticking with 15in rims, but wanting to go with maybe 31 or 32's
There are two boxes that are under the truck. It's most likely the proportioning valve - has several lines going to it, and an electrical connection. The other option is a rear abs controller - has an electrical connection, bleeder screw, and only two lines connected to it.
Find what it leaking. Clean it good and look it over as someone presses on the brakes. Could be a loose or cracked line, or a faulty part. Repair/replace the problem and bleed the system. It's dangerous to drive around with leaky brakes...
thx marty...i dont drive it much, but still its dangerous...it stops fine, doesnt have abs though, ive cleaned it off before and still cant find it...think i will get someone to press the pedal while i get under it....with goggles of course!
Most likely it is a line, one of those that come from the master cyl. to the box, that has broken from rust and vibration and not the box itself leaking.
