I did a search and found no topics but I am getting ready to take the cab off of my frame. What should I do in order to prep for this? I removed the bed with little or no problems. The bushings are shot and I also want to sandblast the frame. What method would b best for lifting the cab off of the frame? Bobcat and chains wrapped around 2x6's sent through the door openings or jacking the cab up at each corner and building a mock frame under it. Gotta work now check back later. Any other information will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance.
Caution don't put that 4x4 throught the doors, you should
take the doors off and put the 4x4 across just about where
the vent window division bar is thats about the balance point,
and of course dont move the bobcat, move the chassis. I
usually have to do this alone so I use a chainfall on the
bucket and I have more control lifting and clearing things that
allways have a way of catching on something. Then a piece
of stocky plywood lowered on a creeper (with real casters)
It will hold just enough to move it around.
if you dont have the front sheet metal off, watch you dont catch anything and twist it. i took my cab off with the front sheetmetal still on. your gonna wanna move the cab back a few inches to clear the front sheetmetal after you lift it up a little bit. other than that, its just up and off. well, more like up a little, back a little, up and off. if your going to change your bushings, do it with the cab off. i made this mistake and now im trying to figure out an easy way to get the bushings off, theyre killing me. also, make sure you check the holes where the cab bolts to the frame, these could have opened up some due to corrosion. other than that, its really straight forward. o, after you move the cab up and back a little, check once again to make sure you have the cab completely seperated from everything else.
You guys are awesome thank you I am going to try and remove it tonight. I am having trouble removing the fenders though some bolts are stubborn. We me luck
