np205 low gear set

A couple of years ago, I heard that someone was working on a low gear set for the np205. Did this ever get done? I can't remember who was supposed to develop the set. I suspect they may of bit the dust.

Seems like they've been talking about this forever and it's always "right around the corner". Wonder why it hasn't been done yet . . . I can't imagine it would be all that difficult but then again what do I know about gears.

They can't price it too high you would think, because then there would be the Atlas option. I've been thinking about just getting a klune and being done with it.

Like ivanribic said, its always just around the corner. I think its an urban legend . . .

I know what you mean about having to be reasonably priced. I was checking out a low gear set and that is what turned meoff from it. It was a 3:1 gear set for the NP 203. I saw that and thought cool, forget the doubler, go trippler. Then you can have a 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, and 6:1. Then I saw the price . It was $1000 for the set. Then take into account the 203 to 205 adaptor at another $700, buy a 203 range box and then rebuild it, another $150 to $200, add shipping charges, that puts you at $2000 in parts alone. Then there's the miscelaneous nuts bolts and gasket sealer, then buying lunch for the friends it'd take to hoist that thing in there, and you're easily at $2200. And that's if you do all of the work yourself.

For $2000 bux, you might as well just get the ATLAS case

I wonder how difficult it would be to put a Klune V in a 90 Brono with AOD? The SWB might make moving the tcase back 6.5" interesting. I think my rear shaft is like 30" long.

The Klune would allow lower overall ratio etc. especially if the David will match up to the AOD.

I don't think the low gear set for a 205 would ever be a cost effective unit, especialy the way the price of 203/205 doublers are droping.

If someone produced a 3:1 for the 205 (or 203) and charged around $500 for it, it would be entirely reasonable and alot more versatile than the doubler setup. I like the idea of a 2:1 and a 4:1, but it could be a 2,3, and 6 in the same package. No more parts, no more weight, alot more choice .

I would buy a lower gear set at a decent price. A doubler would be cool but seems like a lot to fiddle with. I may check out the kits on Pirate though. $550 I could live with. Most likely I'm going to run into trouble with the 7" output shaft on my tranny . . . trying to find a 203 gear built for it. Perhaps I'll do it when I buy a new tranny and go to a 5" shaft. It looks like it wouldn't take up much more room than a 205 with the t-case to tranny adapter. I'd hate to see the weight on it though!

im a fan of the 203 doubler cuz my front shaft is so short....having the doubler would make my rear shorter(better breakover) and my front longer(not so steep)
