body wise is in great shape havent heard it run yet though... my question being...anything that stands out in broncos that i need to be aware off??? whats the main problem areas??

Im a newbie also..check out my "1991 need advise" thread for what I have run into so far in my first couple of months of bronco ownership. Looks like the majority of my stuff was caused by a owner that didn't do much except change oil and tires for 116K (she converted the dual to single exhaust
. I just replaced the battery and I swear it was the original
Garage kept,The body and interior are really incredible for a 13 yr old truck, the engine has been my major expense and headache. It reminds me of the tonka trucks I used to destoy in the backyard, great truck, king of the road.
Problem areas you can do a search for:
Oil Pressure (sender, crap on screen/filter,bad bearings)
Rear Window Motor (there are two gerbils on a belt in there)
I never tried out a FSB rear window in the showroom but they always look like every roll up is your last!
**Good Thing** Soft Top (little harder with a 96 cause of 3rd brake light and rear shoulder belts)
Auto-Hubs (they suck from what I've been reading)
Rust (I am lucky I have none)
I would get it looked at first, I wanted mine so bad I didn't want to know how much it needed, much wiser to get it looked at.

wolfeman thanks, I will take it to a buddy for a quick once over... sounds like the best advice!
Rust in Vegas isnt an issue, good for you, I assume you need to make sure the AC is rocking! That price looks like blue book retail, someone prob traded it in for around $6200-$6500 you have some room to get a deal. FSBs move out of the lot quickly (esp around here) but I betcha you can get it for under $8000, easier if you your mechanic can document that is has something that needs work.
Carfax is a $15 piece of mind. I have a buddy that brought over a 1997 Jeep that the dealer let him take home for the night, ran a carfax and it had been salvaged for flood damage up in the northeast. Took it to a jeep dealership and it turns out had parts (body, interior, engine) from like 3 different model years
hindsight being 20/20 it did look a little off but shiny LOL
find a good one and you will love it

I just bought a 1996 Bronco XLT with 86,000 miles.
I spent $8100 for it. I know that I paid too much, but
man when you really want something that's the way it goes.
This is the way I looked at it.
First of all, the bronco is a one owner, had it new
since 1996. Drove it all lot in the first 5 years on the highway,
then bought a more economical car for the last 3 yrs, and
the bronco was driven a couple thousands mile a year after that.
It's always been garaged.
The paint looks brand spankin new.
The interior is even cleaner.
The transmission was replaced by Ford under warranty at
20,000 miles, so there is only 66,000 miles on the tranny right now.
But the reason why I chose to pay too much, was because it has the brush guard, foglights, side steps, bug deflector, window deflector, rear deflector, a overhead visor, 10 disc changer, cassette, aftermarket 5 stereo system with base tube and amplifier.
AFtermarket alarm with remote start.
Plus, he just installed Ford auto hubs at 82,000 miles, so
basically I'm going to swap out the auto hubs, and put in mile marker manuals, and sell the auto hubs.
Oh yeah, and he's throwing in the original Ford factory sound system...speakers and all. I figure I can get some money for that since they've never been used.
New tires, brakes, adult driven, never offroaded, no rust.
So yeah, I could have probably found one for $6500-$7000.
But after cosmetic modifications, who knows how much it would have costed.
Plus it is so damn beautiful.
So you definitely can find a better priced 1996 broncos, but super clean ones are getting harder to find.
I just saw a 96 with 31,000 miles go for $12,300, and another with 55,000 go for $10,000. Saw a 94 with 58,000 miles go for $8900.
You just need to ask yourself, will you beat yourself up about it if you buy it for $9K, and 2 weeks later you see one for $7500?
Also, anything special about it? How clean is it?
For $9K, make sure you're getting exactly what you want. Don't make any compromises. That is when you go thru buyer's remorse. But if you get exactly what you want, I wouldn't worry about it.
Also, are you only looking local. You can always check Ebay to see what the market is fetching.
Last August, I bought a 95 4runner off of ebay for $6500.
In january, I bought a super clean 94 XLT for $2500 (Ebay), I mean it was super clean. The only thing it needed was hubs cuz the auto's were busted out of them. It had no rust, was customized, and is absolutely beautiful. The reason I got it so cheap was because I bitched about the hubs, and it had 150K miles on it.
And now I just bought the 96 off of Ebay.
I can only speak for myself, but Ebay has been great to me.
Now I'm selling the 4runner and 94 bronco to pay for the 96.
I'll put up pictures soon.
So what's my point? Well, for sure there are cheaper ones out there....but in the end you have to buy what makes you happy.
I could have saved $1000, but in the long run $1000 isn't going to stop me from buying in my opinion the most beautiful 96 bronco I've ever seen in my area, and I've been looking for 4 months.
Good luck!
