I was just about to place an order for the wicked wheel or similar compressor wheel when I read a few things I didn't like. I'm trying to reduce or eliminate the turbo stall I experience while using my predator tuner. Anyway, the particular site i was visiting sold the wheel for a good price 70 or something like that, but they implied that the turbo shaft had to be rebalanced after installation. Well needless to say, you have to send your turbo off to have it done and their price was well over 200 closer to 300. Anybody out there using the wheel and what are your thoughts. I would have already got mine if not for the undesirable information i recieved. I had not heard anything about rebalancing up until visiting that site. Anyway let me know what you think and for those of you who have an aftermarket wheel, let me know if they work (do they really reduce the surge and stall or do they just sound cooler?) and are worth the labor involved? Thanks in advance guys..
I haven't heard of that. I'm just about to purchase one of these myself. I would be interested to see what everyone thinks about this. I don't want to damage my turbo and I'm not sure it's worth the money to get it balanced.
A few people in my area have them and think they are great, I've been told it will definatly help with surge/stall of the turbo.
What website did you get the info from I would like to read what else they say about them.
I'll have to look around for the site again, the reason i didn't include it on my original post was because i went to a few and actually don't remember which one i read that on but i will post when i find it. Thanks for the replies fellas, keep em coming...
Just installed mine. I did not re-balance the turbo, but I did hear of it before hand. I do not have the stall/surge anymore. It does what they claim about not losing boost between shifts. Spools up faster too
BigDave, just wondering if you got the wicked wheel on. Were did you order it from. I have to pull the turbo to change the o rings on the pedistal so I might as well put the wicked wheel on too! I took the 80 hp chip out and put the 40 back in. I miss the power i had. Got a place here in town that does all the balancing and stuff. Guy that works there owes me a favor. Funny what a set of blue lights will do to folks. Heheheheheheh
Dennis at ITP-diesel is the only guy out there really pushing balancing. He had some bad turbo related luck a couple years back, so I can understand his perspective.
I installed the wicked wheel in my truck at about 27,000 miles. It now has a shade over 91,000 miles on it with zero problems. It has not been balanced. Obviously my opinion is that it does not need to be rebalanced after the wheel change.
Cookie the only problem I see that I might have is getting the bolts on the exaust side loose. I'll do what you advised on the pen. oil but mine has never been off the truck. Just curious about how the turbo is balanced.
Cookie,,,,,,I just got my Predator back and withe the 100hp setting I am getting this also. Frankly it's kinda scarry when it happens. Will this cause any dammage to the turbo? Should I reduce the tune until I can replace the wheel or housing on the turbo? I now have the Magnaflow tunner 4" and a home made open air cleaner.

Lets face it, every PSD with intake/exhaust mods and a chip suffers from compressor surge in some form. There are no exceptions. Most folks motor along year after year without even noticing a problem, so from that we can infer that it is generally not a major problem.
IF, when you are standing on the loud pedal the boost gauge needle is making like a jumping bean, then the problem will need to be addressed in short order. If not, then at this point it is little more than an annoying noise, but it will eventually get worse.
If it dosen't surge at all on the lower tune then it probably would be better to run it for a while.
Mine really just surges when I go from full throttle to off. When I decelerate I can keep it from happening if I let out of it slow. Other than that it will cause what seems to sound like a back fire into the air cleaner. Although not every time. Only when I do it at high speeds.
