How would you milk 300-350 hp out of a 302 and have a decent amount of torque? Is it as simple as a decent 4bbl intake and car, headers, cam, and ignition and exhaust systems, or is there more to a 302. I don't know much about this particular engine, but it's in a 78 F-150 and it's got a 2bbl. A friend of mine is thinking about fixing his up. Any advice would be appreciated.
stock power is 140 hp. I don't see anything past 230hp happening without increased compression modified heads. U would need gt40 or stock one modified. even with good heads you might get 270hp max.
Hey,
Go to edelbrock.com, the automotive section, and on the left frame click on dyno test results. Go to the Ford Performer RPM link. This shows you what you can do to get 367 hp and 340 tq from a 302. Thats pretty good. Basically if you had a compression ratio of 9.5:1 (bored out) with the RPM heads and everything else you mentioned, youll get more power than youd ever thought you would from a 302 without forced induction, nitrous, or overhead cams. I know a lot of people that go by the edelbrock build up and find what they were looking for. Hope this helps, although it may not fit your budget youre on...heads are about 1500-1600 from summit i think. Good luck
