Need help and info!
I am restoring a 74 F 261, four wheel drive, long bed (150 wheel base), crew cab. My grandfather had it custom made to carry a queen size carry over camper and as far as I can tell it is a one ton. Family legend has it that it is one of a kind but who knows.
I am starting from the wheels up and in and have so far been making steady progress but have lots of questions and much is not covered in the publications I have so far obtaoned.
ANY information, comments or moral support would be greatly appreciated...gus
Yes it is a 250 ...? But I have the original invoice which says it is a F 261 150.3 cust s/side pick up with 4x4 and crew cab options 7,1000 GVW package, any difference ?
It is an automatic. And presently has the360. By my guess it is the 3rd or 4th engine. The truck may have as many as 400,000 miles or more.
The bed is eight feet long. THe dealer told my grandpa they did not make long beds and as he bought trucks by the fleet at that time,he kept going up the line until he got what he wanted.
Thanks for the time and info!
By the way, I got my '74 F250 from my Grandpa, too!
He bought it new in 1974 for use as a service truck. Most of the info is in my signature, but it is village green and wimbledon white, 160,000 miles, 80,000 on new engine, I'm planning on putting a locker in the rear, 4 bbl carb, etc.
No mods as of yet (just finished full restoration of 1954 Plymouth Plaza), but hope to work on it soon.
You have a pretty cool truck, 1974 was the first year they made a 4-door. You must post some pictures.
Sounds like a rare bird indeed.
74Highboyboy, although they did make crewcabs much earlier than 74. I saw a 67 on this website just last week. And to my surprise it had a long bed! It was 2wd though.
I don't know when the first Factory F250 Crewcab 4x4 was made, any history majors out there?
Alright the first supercab was 74, thats the extended cab, 2 doors.
The first crewcab was 67, with 4 doors.
Ford didn't make crewcab longboxes until the 80's. And they didn't make F350 Crewcab 4x4's until 79. There were F250 CC 4x4's and these are getting quite rare, they can fetch over $10,000 at auction for just a rusty shell.
