i have a 77 f250 replacing the clutch and the new used flywheel i have may need the ring gear replaced, does it press on and off, do i need to head it and slip it off then heat the new one and slip it on? not quite sure how it goes on, didnt even realise it was a seperate piece tell i seen you can get them seperate on checkers website.
I used to take a chisel and spllit the gear between the teeth, then heat up the new one to drop on the flywheel. Sometimes on problem jobs we would spot weld the gear to the flywheel in 3 tried to get equaly spaced areas. This does throw the balance off a bit. Good luck
what if you want to get it off and flip it over without destroying it, and wouldnt head make the ring gear softer so it would get tore up faster? is that how the machine shops do it?
what temp in the oven and about how many minutes? by the way thanks for helpiin im new at this rin gear thing, always had auto and just replaced flexplate they always cheap
i learned they only come off and go on one way today, they go off towards the engine and come back on the same way they went off, there is a lip so it can only go one way.
