An Interesting Observation?

I look at the Ranger forum every day. The threads may have 2 or 3 answers. The 3.0 forum has less. Some of the others have 1 or 2 in the last month. This one goes for 20 to 30, and some of the other non-vehicle forums-over a hundred. The "used to be pig pen" is unreal about the number of posts.

As a Ford forum, are there really that many Ford enthusiasts?

I do my share on the Ranger forum, but it seems like most of the activity is elsewhere. I was going to ask if anyone had a comment, but immediately realized "that's a stupid question"!

We were wondering about that too.

Speaking to the subject of FORD Trucks

I ask for help when I need it, sometimes it's confusing as to where to post. I check the forums that I can help in and respond if appropriate. Then I come here and all bets are off! Oh yeah, I always check and clear my e-mail first, so I clear all of XYZ just responded to a thread you are subscribed to... messages. Most of the time some sharp member has already given the correct answer to the questions asked and I have no reason to respond.

Well, thats my story and I'm stickin to-it!

JK

Big Brother! Is that you? I'm just kidding, please don't lock this thread.

So, if we don't have anything to say about Ford then we should limit our posts? I've been a part of many message boards and they all have this in common: General coversation is always the busiest forum. Ford is what we all have in common, but everything else is how we get to know one another. There is a whole world outside of the vehicles that we drive. Sometimes, that makes for interesting conversation. Feel free to join in.

Well, Mill, the true quistion is, can you track the searches everyone does and what not? I do not post alot in the truck forums, mostly in GC, as everyone well knows. But when all the answers to my quistions are there. Then I dont need to post there alot and ask to many quistions.

Along with the fact that my daily driver is an 02 not exactly a problem child here. my 91 I am done with and have not yet picked up my 78 so dont have any real quistions on that yet.

Well, there's always the old standby excuse...
"My truck never breaks, so, what else is there to write about in the Ranger forum..."
But, in reality, at least in the case of the Rangers, there SO MANY other sites dedicated to them, that a lot of people find there answers over there, or are directed there by those of us here, who know the info is already up and waiting at those other sites.

Also, how many times can you explain how to fix the dome light that never goes off, or tell folks what your gas mileage, or that there's really not much you can do cheaply to make a 2.3 go faster, before you want to pull your hair out.

I still surf on over every visit, there's just not alot to be said there. A lot of the other, far more dedicated folks usually have already answered the question...

I think some people, myself included, came here for help because they didn't know everything they wanted to know about their vehicles.

A ..lot of the specific post in the truck forums are best answered by those that know the answer than those that have a good idea, but are not quite sure.

I do read every post in certian forums, great way to learn.

Yea - what he said...

I came here because I recently purchased a new Ford. Am I new to Ford ownership? No - this is my 3rd Ford 4x4 truck. I am here because I am interested in picking up new ideas and being able to ask the occasional question when needed. I do find it a little disturbing that when some ask questions that have been asked before, perhaps a lot, they are some what chastised for not doing a seach first, or looking at the tech sections or what ever. Maybe they are still learning their way around this forum. It may be their first experience with any forum...

The "General Conversation" section holds a broader range of topics and intrests for us to discuss. When a group of friends get together, do they only talk of one subject? No - and if they do it will soon grow tiresome and they won't get together any more.

I enjoy the General sections because here is where I really learn about the other members, their lives, their interests and etc...Funny, a lot of us have more in common than just Fords...

Now if ya want to do something for the forum get a spell check - or is there one I haven't found yet?

The Ranger is almost always the first forum I check since that is what brought me here. I post there when I have a question and when I can offer help. I read just to learn. Next I come to the CG forums to check in with my "virtual friends". It is kinda like going to the local coffee shop and catching up on the "news of the day" (if we were all women it would be called gossip!)

Love for Ford trucks brought me to FTE; tech information keeps me coming back, and my CG friends are a nice side benefit!

"Tis better to keep your mouth shut, and let peolpe think you're a fool, than to open it, and remove all doubt."

I have a lot to learn and reading these forums is a great way to do it. If I don't have something useful to say in a tech forum, then there's no point in posting.

I think so. From running paid/monthly commercial networks in the past, I can tell you most people read and do not post. You are lucky if 5% of the people post anything unless they need immediate help with a problem.

As for the Ranger forums, as many Rangers as Ford sells, I think the the F-150 still out sells it 4:1. Check out the number of posts in each forum, even Big Broncos (last year 1996) has 2x more than the Ranger forum.

I may post a lot, but, the only reason I visit the site is because I have Ford trucks and work on Fords. Otherwise I would not bother coming here. I think I spent the most time ever on one post, by looking through a CD manual for a tech answer and checking it against my truck.

Now this has me wondering which forums get the most daily traffic. I would think my "home base" of '73 - '79 has a great deal of posts.

Would someone at Home Depot send potential customers to Ace Hardware? In effect that's what's being done. If you know the answer why not post it, and if you don't then perhaps not posting a link as a quick answer will result in another FTE user actually providing the answer.
