i was thinking of buying a new edelbrock intake and carb..the performer intake for a four bbl and the four bbl 750 carb.. wanted to know if this would be a suggested upgrade? and also if i were to do this upgrade..which seems pretty awesome : ) how much horsepower and low end torque do you think i would gain?
Ask in the FE forum and you will probably get a quicker response or could find out just by reading current postings, this question comes up quite a bit.
I too have a 360 and am probably going with a stock 4 bbl manifold and a 600 vacuum secondary. I have a manual transmission and run lower RPMs than the C6 guys (I think). That's my story.
I thought about the Performer RPM but that is supposed to sart acting at 1500 RPMs. I want to have power at 1000 and would go with the Performer if I could find one cheap. You kinda gotta study on cams too and what spacer to put in between the carb an the manifold, if any.
I might go with a 750 cfm carb if I was more confident on switching to a 390 later I guess. I'm just kinda lurking and thought I would help you out.

Hey birdman, that is going to be to much carb for that 360, go with a 600-650 cfm and you will be happier. I have used both Edelbrock and Holley on everything from trucks to boats. I have found that a Holley makes horsepower while Edelbrocks give more economy. I have a Edelbrock 600 on my 352 with a Performer intake amd it works good. I however dont like tuning Edelbrocks, Holley is way more user friendly when it comes to that. Im going to try a Holley on it and see what I can come up with, who knows. Hope that helped.

Looking at the same upgrade here...same engine, the 360 with a three on the column....I was advised to check the compression, and change the timing gears and chain as well....My old truck has 80,000 plus....so I think any convenient changes would help....kinda sluggish and the old stock carbureator, although it has been rebuilt leaves something to be desired...Good Luck....and let me know if it helps....!
I spent some time with a local guy that knows FE engines and one of the things we looked at was the vacuum hose routing on my truck. I had it all screwed up, when I get some light on things in the morning I will be rerunning some hoses.
He doesn't figure I had any advance going to the dizzy and I had created "leaks" where I had routed things. I expect an improvement on performance when I get things right. The whole EGR/vacuum line thing is a big puzzle to me. I guess I'll have to draw myself a picture with notes, attention deficiency sux. LOL
This guy has a beautiful '62 Galaxie with a 390/tri-power and four speed. Also has enough parts for me to get 390ized in the near future.
I guess what I'm trying to say is to check the simple things first when you have less power than you think you should. I still have to check my timeing and compression. Weather sucks and I'm a wuss.
hey fryzil.. what kind of holley carb were you looking at..i would take a look at them..just didnt know that there was much difference between the two brands.
