Carb Rebuild
How long can I expect a carb rebuild to last, ie until it needs to be rebuilt again?
I had rebuilt the carb about 6 years ago, and the tank had been running pretty good up until last week, when I drove it to a garage for some work. It would all but die whenever I pressed the accelerator, and ran real rough when cruising along (~30mph). Sounded fine at idle.
Does this sound like a carb rebuild and/or something else? Oops, guess that makes 2 questions...
I always do the easiest things first. Check the points. If filing or replacing the points doesn't fix the problems, check the color of the plugs. The color will tell you about the fuel mix and possibly give you a clue as to what the problem is. Good luck, John
Although what you described could be a bad accelerator pump, flooding and not idling are the usual symptoms of carburetor trouble. I'd look elsewhere first as John and Ranger Pat suggested and save the carburetor as a last resort...
