I'm looking into opening a Coffee/Espresso shop and would just like to know what I can expect to pay for everything...I've done about 8 months of research and this will be the first business that I have ever opened.
Can't wait to be my own boss... ....or so they say
I've been a coffee salesman for about 6 years now and I have seen things that work and things that don't work. But not ever owning a business before I know that there is A LOT to learn..
Can't give you advise since I have never done such a task. I do wish you the best and if you want to come to central Illinois and open one - I will be a good customer. We need a good coffee shop here!

...or hire Italian girls and buy pretty equipment....I'm sorry, it's been a long day.
Basically, you're going into the restaurant business. I grew up in that industry, and I eat out- A LOT. It goes without saying that the place has to be clean, the product has to be good, the servers presentable and efficient, etc... But I do understand when something goes wrong; it's inevitable, and EVERY customer should think about that whenever they walk through the doors of such an establishment. I've received cold food, had food and drinks spilled on me, been seated late, served late- you name it. In the grand scheme of things, it's no big deal. We're HUMAN, for God's sake. But there's ONE THING I look for that MUST be there, and it's inexcusable if it's missing. My favorite restaurants have just one thing in common:
They make me feel welcome, as if I'm the most important person that walked in the door that day. Give that to every customer that walks through YOUR door, and all your other problems will take care of themselves. Best wishes for California's newest (and BEST) coffee shop!
I also eat out alot and Good service will beat anything else in getting me to come back. The only other advise i have is underestimate profits and overestimate taxes. I owned my own construction co. for awhile and did not do either.
Thanks guys for all the good advice...As a salesman I've learned that customer service and quality have to be #1..I can't always provide the lowest price, but I can give better customer service than the next joker. I've put tons of research into this and it is extremely difficult to give up a paycheck and venture out on your own..
The passion I have for owning my own business just won't go away. I make decent money and people think I'm crazy for wanting to give that up, but I don't know what else to do...
