I have an '82 F100, reg cab, lwb, 2wd. It has the small 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern rear axle and brakes. 300/C6 powered. I have redone my body and have boxed the rear of my frame. The problem with the frame is that it is getting rusty and is either going to require sandblasting and reinforcing or replacement. I have a chance to buy a rolled '93 F150 with same wheelbase dimensons and the fuelie 4.9/auto. My question is, has anyone swapped chassis from an new truck into an older F-series?
What I want to do is keep all my F100 interior, dash, wiring (except what needs to be added for the 4.9L computer), and sheet metal. What I want to add is the '93 frame, suspension, and drivetrain. Essentually, '93 F150 with an '82 F100 body and appointments. Any comments or tips would be appreciated.
It can be done, it'll be a big project. the only weird things are the front crumple zone on the newer frames (I think it starts at 93), and getting the new fuelie systems to work with the old cab will be somewhat fun. steve83 has a lot of info one his website. he did a lot of what you are talking about.
your truck will bolt right to the frame. just some bumper mods all thats needed. a 82 of my dad's has a 94 frame and i haven't thought of looking but i'll check to see how they did bumper on it.
Thanks for the info. I can handle all the mechanics of the swap with no problems and will build new bumper mounts if need be. Does anyone have any info on swapping the 4.9L computer and harness into a carbed truck? I assume once the ignition is wired in that the computer will be a stand alone operation. Essentially, all the original F100 wiring I need will be in the cab and external lighting and the F150 engine harness will be the rest. Is there a tech article or website for swapping a carbed 300 for the fuel injected 4.9L? Thanks.
