68 five speed conversion
I have my four speed out for a rebuild now and am asking myself if I want to finish the job or start a new adventure by putting a later model 5 speed in the truck. It has a 300 CID engine. Does anyone know if a later Ford five speed will match the bell housing and input shaft? If this has been asked and aswered before, a little direction to the link would be appreciated.

Depends on what five speed trans you are asking about. T-5 won't work with your bellhousing, and M5OD and ZF five speed truck transmissions have an intregal bellhousing, and use an internal hydraulic slave cylinder for the clutch.
M5OD and ZF off a 4.9L six and 5.0/5.8 (302/351) will bolt up to your engine.

Thanks Steell, that was the information I was looking for. Can you tell me what the high gear gear ratios are for both transmissions and what year trucks they would have been installed in?
