Question Installing Factory Ford Keyless Entry

Hello guys and gals...

I have been a member of the board for abount a month, but this is my first post.

I bought a 1998 F-150 (see signature). It did not have the keyless entry installed from the factory. I know that there are a lot of aftermarket kits, but can the factory Ford box be installed?

I'm wondering if I'll find the 2 plugs just hanging under the dash, or if I will have to fabricate my own connectors.

Any tips will be appreciated.

I installed my keyless entry/alarm about a month ago, part number F7AZ-19A361-AA, i had to do all the wiring myself, no connectors. pretty simple, just took some time.

I installed an aftermarket keyless entry system on my 1997 250 LD. Pretty easy, just a matter of splicing some wires inside the door under the switches. I ran the wires behind the door panel and put the reciever in the front pocket on the door to make it virtually invisible. Plus entire system was about $30 on ebay!

Thanks for the replies.

I have done plenty of alarms and keyless entries on other vehicles, so I not afraid of the electronics. (I actually work in some pretty high tech electronic fields)

I actually have a factory Ford keyless entry box and remote. The receiver is used from a junkyard, but the remote is brand new. I was hoping that the harness would be there so that I didn't have to fab my own. Call me lazy...

So TAMU05, do you have a diagram with the pin out for the receiver module?

I punched the part number you gave in www.fordpartsonline.com and it showed it being for an escape? could it be that if you had one designed for the f 150 that it would simply connect into the harness without splicing?

I recently started working at the local ford dealer, so I can get a pretty deep discount on parts and accessories, so I asked the parts manager about keyless entry and he told me I could get it for about $125. He also told me that the remote starters from the aftermarket mess up the OBD, and if something screws up on the truck, that you have to unhook the remote start in order to read the codes. I'm going to take my remote start x-mas present back!!
