I have a 1989 F-250 XLT 4x4 with a 302 V-8 and the AOD tranny
its the light dutie F-250 yesterday i was driving on the highway in overdrive at about 70mph and noticed my trannie shifting up and down repeatedly then the motor started screaming and the truck was going no-where i started to merge into the break down lane and moved the shifter out of over drive to drive and the truck started moving again so now it drives in drive but will not in over drive i had the tranny flushed and filter changed 2 months ago and the truck has a little over 189,000 miles on it the transfer case and motor are new at 175,000 hopefully there is something stupid i can do to fix this.
please help...
is your AOD Hydraulic or Electronically controlled? The hydraulic version of the AOD used a second input shaft splined to the Torque Converter cover to bypass the TC in Overdrive, the other end splines directly to the Direct Clutches in the rear of the tranny. Maybe the splines on the shaft have stripped, allowing the shaft to spin freely resulting in no output in OD.
