Pulling Oil Pan

I am going to install a new oil pump in my 87 f250 460 4x4 will i have to lift the engine up alittle first. what is the best way to do this. thanks

Yes, you will need to raise the motor and do a number of things. The Haynes repair manual fully details the steps necessary to replace the oil pump. It would be a good idea to have one on hand if you are going to be doing any type of work. They run about $15.

I always put a short piece of 2x4 under the crankshaft pulley, and then use a bottle or floor jack to raise the motor. The 2x4 makes a cushion.
