I sent my truck out to the Ford garage for warranty service, one of the things I had them do was to change the oil since it was there.I gave them a filter and Rotella-T oil, when I picked the truck up, they told me they did not use my oil, because Rotella is a no no. The advisor said Ford sent out bulletins stating that the oil causes problems. This is news to me, I have always used the oil with no problems. I was told the oil was good for only the "big trucks", not the PSD. IMOP, I think the dealer is trying to push the Motorcraft oil to make some extra $$$. Any input would be appreciated!
Probably it just didn't fit in with their habits and directives from someone in the dealership that doesn't know his hat from a bowling ball. They used the MotoCraft oil and made up an excuse/lie. Rotella T is fine for your truck, carries the rating that Ford designates. The MotoCraft oil won't hurt it, that is fine also, carries the same, no better, rating. The real question is: are these people smart or honest enough to use again for more serious things? Not to me. Find another place to take your truck next time.
I never heard any such thing - Rotella has all the right certification numbers. I think the Ford guy is just trying to B.S. you into buying Motorcraft oil from them. I would be interested to hear what "problems" the oil causes??
Rotella is all I've ever used on mine and my Dad's PSDs.
They are full of it, ask for it in writing next time he tells you that.
All the Rotella fans might be interested to know that Rotella is not a "TRUE" synthetic. It is dyno oil that is further refined. I asked some very pointed questions of them, below is their final response.
RE: Ask Shell: Synthetic
Shell's XHVI Synthetic oil manufacture starts with chemicals derived from petroleum production.
How can it be synthetic if you are deriving it from petroleum oil? Answer: it can't anything that starts with petroleum is petroleum. Don't be misled by false advertising.

I asked for a copy of the so called bulletin from Ford, response was "I would have to go back into the files to find it", that was enough said for me. I knew I was given a line of bull about the oil, just wanted to hear from others what they thought. Thanks Guys!!
So, what does that have to do with the subject of this thread? If you want to debate whether Group III oils should be called synthetics, why don't you start a new topic?
And, btw, Shell only markets Rotella Synthetic as a syn. They say no such thing about regular Rotella T.
Oppy the Rotella "Synthetic" is the oil that I received the response about, so there is no true Rotella Synthetic....
As for Bob - I am a preferred customer I believe in the stuff so BM.... My past comments still ride, I guess you will surprise us all when you have something intelligent to say!
