5R55E beef up

Hi does anyone have any experience beefing up a 5R55E for towing duty. I want to pull a pop up trailer with my 97 Aerostar w/5R55E. 170,000 kms, in good shape, well maintained.
flushed trans @ 160,000 mark. 4.0L motor has lots of go

Had a buddy w/3.0L/A4ld aerostar. took it camping and fried his trans on the way there, don't want to repeat his folly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Make sure it has a good transmission cooler. If it's pretty small, replace it with a bigger one. Plate style, not the snake tube style Plate is more efficient). Towing anything will cause much more heat to build up in your transmission, and the stock coolers are often not sized for heavy towing duty, but more for general use. IIRC, I have one stock on my 3.0/A4LD, but it's pitifully small, and not the more efficient style.
