If you do not have the under dash A/C, it's pretty easy. I drained my cooling system first, removed the heater hoses, and then there are two nuts on the engine side of the firewall, I think it's two. Could be three. Remove the right and left defroser hoses, then I dropped the heater assembly to access the core. You'll have to disconnect the defrost control cable from the heater assembly first. If you have a Chilton's manual, it will walk you through each step. I don't recall having to do anything special. It was the easiest heater core change I have been through. Good luck. Let me know if you need specific directions. I can scan them and send them that way.
Bryan pretty much covered it. The bolts on firewall, then the 8-10 inside that hold the cover on heater box, the defrost tubes. It all falls apart pretty easy and very accessible. Slip the new heater core in and reverse the procedure.
ONE note. There is a small spring clip on the back side of the heater core that puts pressure on core to keep it from rattling around. I think there is a spot for it to sit. A piece of tape is used to hold it in place until you get core slid into place. Not a big deal, but thought I would mention it.
