If you search this site for "muffler" or "exhaust" topics, you will finds tons of opinions about what's the best muffler. Although I put a MagnaFlow on mine, most people seem to like the FlowMaster mufflers. The one common point I picked up here is that the V10 will never put out the deep rumble of a V8. I talked to several muffler shops and they said the V10 sounds more like a stock race car at Indy.
I have the Flowmaster 40 series on my truck. I used the stock pipe and added a crome tip. I'm a huge fan of the classic V8 sound, and was hesitant to put a muffler on my truck. After I did, I was really happy with how it sounded. The muffler puts out the flowmaster sound, but it's not quite the same as a V8.
I suggest to just buy a muffler, not a cat-back system. The V10 comes from the factory with mandrel-bent (no wrinkles) 3 1/2" tubing with nice smooth bends. I cut off the stock muffler and added a Flowmaster 53073 (3 1/2" offset I/O) which is a direct replacement for the stocker. This is the part number that Flowmaster uses in their cat-back system. It has enough length so that no additional tubing needs to be added and it's very heavy-duty for my towing conditions. Less than an hour job. In my previous ride, F250/460, I blew out the back end of a 40 series Flowmaster due to the heat generated while towing 13,500 pounds. The 70 series is louder that stock but mellower than the 40 series. The V10 will never sound like a V8 'cause it ain't. Fires every 72 degrees instead of 90.
Thanks V10Man!
