Was just down in the Columbus, Ohio area last weekend and was watching for the sniper as I drove along the highways.
I find it interesting that they call this guy a sniper- he seems to be one of the worst shots ever! Now they says he's using a handgun from an overpass.
Maybe we could call him the "Highway potshotter", seems more fitting.
It will be interesting to see what his problem is when they catch him.
I agree. The term sniper to me is a military term about a highly skilled sharpshooter. I've heard stories about some notable snipers, picking off targets over 1500 yards away. It's too bad the term is applied to this crazed idiot.
Sniper is a term that is for someone that is good at hitting targets. Actually- the dummies in DC were much closer to being real snipers IMHO, teamwork, cover and weapons knowledge being much more thought out in their case.
This guys giving snipers a bad name!
Fordfaggiole- I was actually on the north side of Columbus, so I didn't worry too much other than keeping an eye on the woods- but he did that shooting southwest on I-71 at the same time that I was on the road in the area.
This "sniper" is either a really bad shot or a really good one. It could be possible that he's not trying to kill people, just scare them. Who knows, I just hope they catch him before I have to go to that side of Columbus.
i think the " sniper" is actually my ex girlfriend reacting after i broke up with her ( even tho its five years) i mean shes the only one i know that is that bad a shot!!
I think that he is probably really a GREAT shot. He is only sending out warning shots. The few kills he has made were intentional to gain some attention. These people live off of seeing themselves reffered to as "The Highway Sniper" or "Son of Sam" (even tho son of sam was a self given name.) I think he kills when he wants to, and just aims to scare at other times. He was spotted by a lady here last night, or afternoon. He was on an overpass and was scoping the area. He made no effort to draw attention to himself, he probably doesn't even know he was seen.
I personally believe that good shot or not, he is only trying to scare people. The one lady who was killed, the vehicle was shot in the driver's door. I think all the others have been hit either in the front fender or the hood. If this guy were really trying to kill someone, A. he would be shooting at the windshield, and B. he would fire more than once. All the vehicles have been hit by a single shot.
Optimimally he would take a shot at someone with a deer rifle in the gun rack. Said person would pull over at 100 - 200 yds, use their mirror for a rest and put a ballistic tip in his chest or for an extra 5 points his head. Fitting end.
I think that would be much too quick and easy. How about using a tranquilizer instead, and while he's down, tag his ear, put a radio collar around his neck, then neuter him and return him to his herd?
this "sniper" has only killed once in november hitting an old lady in the passenger seat of a car lately they have been shooting at the windshield and hoods of the passing vehicles hitting pretty good they do know what they are doing or i would think someone else would have been hit by now they have tried to widen their area around columbus and have now been seen several times on the overpasses i drive around the south side where most of the shots have been every now and then for work but dont let it bother me it happens it happens just my .02
