Hey all,
I just bought a 1985 full size Bronco. Going to use some of the parts for my '77 F-150 4x4 and some others for my '78 F-150 4x2.
I just need to know engine size, etc.
It looks to have a 9-inch rear with a Dana 44 up front.( not a solid axle )
It is full time 4WD, has what looks to be a 2 or 3 inch body lift, aluminum wheels ( factory ). Also has factory air, cruise, tilt, etc.
There is a link in a post below or you can have Ford break it down for you and give you a nice letter if you go to Ford Owner Connection page off of Ford.com
The vin # listed shows your 85 Bronco to have an engine code of "H" (8th digit) which transcribes to the 351W cid or 5.8L with 4bbl carb. If it's an H.O. model, it will have that on the original air cleaner lid if still there. The axle codes you get from the door jamb sticker or the axle ID tags. The transfer case will ahve a tag, too. It came factory with either the NP208 or B-W1345. These are both part-time 4WD, but you may have auto-locking hubs.
Thanks for the replies people! They were appreciated.
By the way, justshootme84, you are right After a quick look at the hubs they do say automatic on them !
The tag on the door is gone but I will go under to see if the tags are on the axles as soon as I get the chance!
Thanks again !!!!!!!!!
No problem, dude!!! It sounds like your Bronco is similar to mine, at least when it came from the factory! Most Broncos after 1983 had the Ford 8.8" rear axle, but a few still got the Ford 9", like on mine. There's some pics of both types in my gallery here and at SFO to help you with the tag codes.
