H.P. oil pump

Would like some information, can a H.P. oil pump be rebuilt? If so, where would I go to find parts? How would I know if it's defective? The one on my truck will lose about an inch of oil in the reservoir in about 8 hours. Don't know the pressure output.

I don't know if it's re-buildable or not, but it's just a swash plate, can't be too tough. Parts are probably only avail through International or Ford. If the pump were defective the truck wouldn't start. If it's withing 1" of the inspection plug after sitting overnight Ford won't do anything about it, they would call it normal.

There is an anti-drainback valve in the pump, probably seeping some.

If I may ask, what are the symtoms of the pump going out or drain leaking? My truck, only when cold 20 degrees or less will start just fine for about 3-5 seconds and then die, when it is plugged in it does fine but sometimes it wants to shut down, now I have been noticing that the oil pressure gauge stays at zero for about that long and that is usually when the truck wants to die, when the pressure comes up after the second start everything is fine. does this sound like the pump, drain back valve? and is it a do it myself kind of thang? also where is the pump located? This has been a good site with alot of knowledge and well, I need some more help, thanks guys.

P.S. Sorry Bandit, I no this is your thread and your question on rebuilding one, but it sparked my interest in the oil pump and possible problem. If rebuild is an option I'd like to know to.
