Does a 89 have a computer that can be diagnosed with a code reader? If so where would I find the codes for same?

The best $35.00 tool that I have ever bought for my Fords is the Actron CP-9015 code scanner. Got it at Pep Boys. Dont know about other scanners, but the Actron comes with an XLNT instruction manual. Very simple to hook up & use. Or click on the "tecnical information sticky" & then on how to pull EEC-4 trouble codes.

got one at walmart $20. It comes with the list of codes.

Are the codes the same in all Fords or different for every model?

The code have some variation depending on the system, you will get 2 digit codes from an 89.
