I have just bought a 2004 Excursion 4x4 With a 7.3 Diesel, it has 81,000 miles. I am looking for the best service manual that I can find. and any pointers that I might look for on my new (used) excursion. This is my first time on a forum, so please excuse All of my mistakes.
The absolute BEST place is the same place where Ford gets 'em .... Helm Publications ... http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r= ... a little pricey, but the best info out there. I also have the CD version, and I prefer the hardcopy by far. Some folks prefer the CD for their own reasons. If you have a laptop, then the CD may be useful 'cause you can carry the laptop to the trouble (hard to do with a desktop PC).
I recently bought a Haynes manual on EBay.... and it's OK.... but not great. (but worth the $14) It seems to have most of the remove and replace type instructions, but the detail and pictures leave much to be desired. But I don't plan to do serious repairs, I'll leave that to my mechanic. The most important thing for me are the electrical diagrams and they seem to be pretty complete.
Back in 1980, I had a new F150 and I bought the Ford manuals. I think it was a 3 volume set. They were extensive in their detail. I would agree that they are probably THE best.
Welcome to FTE and good luck with your X. I love mine.
