inline 6 to v8

I have a 78 4x4 with an inline 6 300ci. It has a lifter making noise & the other day oil started poring out from rear of motor.

I have a just rebuilt 66 352/360 in my sandrail with 0 miles.

Will the v8 match up to my 4 speed trans in my truck ?

Is this a good swap ?

excellent swap.

F150dan is correct, my '79 was orig. a 300 I-6 and I swapped in the 390 myself. Now I'm peeling rubber AND towing better than the I-6 did!

Everyone so far seems to be correct. I swapped a I-6 in my 77 for a 360 out of a 71. All I had to do was move the motor mounts and swap the bellhousings. Overall it was a pretty easy job to do. Good luck

rowdyh ~

Besides the extra tire wear (from tire spinning when changing gears if not easy on the gas....), I'd say it's a good swap.

I did the same thing you are planning (see my gallery) and went from a 262 cu in 6 banger to an asphalt churning 460+. It makes the S-10's in my neighborhood wet their pants when they as much as HEAR me approaching (the trush mufflers really make the Lunati cam skreem....). I would say jerk out the 6 banger and use it for a mailbox or something and strap a big block in there....

What ever happened to the 262? I've been looking for one for a while now.
