Did I brake my new fuel puemp?

I just installed my new fuel pump (holly 60 gph) on my 77 302) when I started her up I told my big dog "big dog who's the man?" because everything was running great, for about 2 minutes thtat is.........as I'm telling the dog this, she dies then nothing. so i go to MONSTER JAM with my nephew (it was ok)..... came home........ took the pump apart thinking it was flooded or did I alined it wrong. or (that 3 hours was enough time to let it go)......the well was dry> I'm thinking I put the shaft above the cam instead of below. I hope I didn't ruin it. diid I?

Ps I just got back from a wedding so(sorry about miscommunication)

I switched the fuel inlet and outlet lines and still nothing. the fuel gauge in the truck didn't move on either way I had the lines installed...I must have installed the pump wrong, I'm gonna have to wait till the weekend. Any tricks on fishing the pump arm in the right way?
Thanks
J

It would seem most likely that you didn't get the arm under the cam eccentric. The inlet and outlet ports should be marked on the pump. It's possible it needs primed. You could fill the carb throught the vertical vents and see if it runs long enough to get the pump primed. Make sure of your inlet first.
I'm not sure what you mean about the gauge? Are you talking about the fuel tank?

Codasmog,
What happens when you disconnect the supply line from the pump to the carb and crank the engine? I know this is dangerous, but you can attached a longer hose and run it outside the engine compartment and into a jug.
Do you feel any pressure from the supply line? Or at least feel a pumping action? It's unlikely that you got the arm on the wrong side of the cam...since you had that in mind during install.

Tip: I always set up a rebuilt pump in a vise placing the hoses in a jug and pump the arm manually to check the flow. It might be a good idea on new pumps.
