Question Factory spare

Hey fellow FTE folk,
I have heard that my spare 'could' be the orginal factory tire and rim many a time. I have also seen other Broncos same year as mine with the same wheel and tire. I know I have the orginal rim, but what about the tire? It's a Firestone and it still has the bluish/ white letters on the tread describing the model number and such. It looks like it's never been off the tire rack on my truck. I guess the tire is a 31" but I'm not sure at the moment. I just think it's neat if it is indeed the orginal one 'cause then I can tell people that. It's the little things that count sometimes. Thanks,
-wb

factory tire

I think one way to confirm the originality would be to check the GVWR sticker in the doorjamb - this lists the size for replacement purposes. I think the F-150's came with General Tires around this time, but I'm sure the Broncos could be optioned with Firestones. I think it's cool to have the original spare!!

It is "cool" to have the original spare until you need it. Mine still has the original (never on the ground) from '95 with a date on the tire as Jul. '94. It will get changed soon and thrown out. The problem is that the rubber has gotten real bad from life in the weather even if it is covered. The tire looks real nice and new but a friend had one on a F150 the same way and it blew within a couple of miles of being run. There is a manufacture date on the tire listed like "314" that is at the end of the DOT number listing on the back side of the tire. The "314" on the Goodyear Wrangler (265/75R15) translates to the 31st week of '94, or Jul, 94. That is the brand and size that came factory on my '95. I really recommend you NOT run that tire even as a spare.

Good point Azpete. You can tell that the tire has seen some major sun. Guess I'll put it on the to-do list. -wb
