im trying to find a 390 for my truck in the junkyard and am curious if you can tell the difference in a 390 and a 360 by looking or if you must get the numbers off the engine.
i did find one at a guys house and he says its a 390. I found one number that said D4TE and another number that said T02
You really can't tell with the numbers on the engine.
The 360/360 are very similar. Running the same heads and almost every part, except the rotating assembly. The only real way to tell is by identifying the crank or measuring the stroke.
If confident it is original to the truck, then the VIN will tell you.
