1988 F-150,351 engine four wheel drive. My question is at highway speed my engine starts to stutter and the check engine light flashes. The truck is not under a load at the time it happens and it only happens at highway speed.changed the plugs and cap and wires about 4 months ago and was running fine until yesterday. I know I have to change the fuel filter yet but was wondering if there is anything else that could cause this problem.
A good place to start is to pull the codes if the check engine light is on and that will give you a good idea of what you need to look at. You can do it yourself with a paperclip, pen and paper this way. Or you can run it down to autozone and they'll do it for free.

If I may suggest trying to pull codes anyway. I learned the hard way not all codes trigger the engine light.
Changed all but the PCV valve so far. I'm thinking it might be a fuel pressure issue, found a kinked fuel line exiting my high pressure pump. 92 octane fixed the pinging problem as usual.
To Fishmaker, with the engine stutter problem. Try replacing the Oxygen sensor. My 95 351 experienced the same problem. And the check engine light would come on & off. Replaced the O2 sensor, and everthing was fine after that.
