Newbee with brake problem

I just bought a 1992 F250 XLT with the HD package Nice truck but the brakes suck!! New rotors in front with new shoes and pads! This work was done by the preivous owner! The issue is if you need to stop you must pump the pedal quite a few times to get the vehicle to stop, on panick stops the pedal goes to the floor! Now sometimes theres pressure but most of the time there is none! I've bled the whole system and still not much improvement! Have checked for leaks and have kept it topped with fluid! Have made sure the back brakes are adjusted! I know th RABS valve could be bad but the symptoms
I have found on this site and others dont quite match what mine is doing! I bought a new master cylinder, should I replace it and see what happens?? If anyone has any Ideas for the new guy!
I sure would accept them!!!!
Thanks

Sounds like you need to bleed it again. The pumping up is to compress air, and then you get braking action. The master cylinder is hard to bleed right, and the porportioning valve can be a pain. You should be able to lock 'em up first time. I put all new stuff on my truck during the 4x4 conversion, and bled it out, and it will send you through the windshield. One possibility is a bad booster, but this would feel either like no power brakes or slowly sagging to the floor once you are pressing (just going further and further until it is manual feeling) Again, I think you just need a bleed. Start at the back right, back left, then front right and front left. I also used a vaccuum system to suck the fluid through the system, and for the master cyl. I used the vaccuum and a friend pushing on the pedal at the same time. Just thought of something else: do you have abs? I am unfamiliar with what problems this may create. Sorry, but hopefully this will be of at least some help.Ted

it needs to be bleed again. use a vaccuum pump and make sure u check the fluid all u need to do is let it run dry while your bleeding and you will be doing it again.

yup - bleed them. Keep doing it until the padal feels solid. Start with the wheel FARTHEST from the master cylinder and work your way to the closest. That keeps you from having to do it again.

Thanks to all for the input on this!! Much appreciated!! Worked on the problem all morning! Plugged the master cyl. and had no fade. Bled the brake system ALOT! No difference! Broke down and put in a new RABS unit and rebled and now The brakes will put you through the windshield with little effort at the pedal!!! Lost nicer!
Thanks everyone!! Great Site!
